Lessons learned from COVID-19 underscore the importance of preventing and mitigating the spread of communicable diseases within the transportation system to maintain operations, ensure safety, and preserve public confidence. To address this, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has released its "Transportation Security Preparedness Plan to Address the Event of a Communicable Disease." This plan details TSA’s efforts to manage communicable disease outbreaks, including communication and collaboration protocols, workforce protection measures, and strategies for engaging with federal agencies, international partners, transportation stakeholders, and the traveling public.
Transportation stakeholders are encouraged to review the plan and evaluate its relevance to their operations. Organizations interested in learning more about best practices to enhance collective preparedness and response efforts are invited to contact the EXIS® Team at exis@tsa.dhs.gov.
